Newsletters

Ghost's newsletter feature — the actual emails your subscribers receive — is independent of theme code. Fold only controls the on-site surfaces that get someone into a newsletter in the first place.

How newsletters relate to Fold

Every Subscribe button in Fold (homepage intro, header, paywall, free-post footer) opens Ghost's Portal, where a visitor actually signs up and, if you have more than one newsletter, chooses which one(s) to receive. Fold doesn't render email templates and doesn't decide what a subscriber receives by inbox — that's entirely Ghost's Newsletter settings and its own generated emails, sent independent of your site's theme.

Enabling newsletters in Ghost

Configured from Settings → Newsletters in Ghost Admin: sender name and address, subject line format, design (accent color, footer content, whether posts are sent in full or as a preview), and whether new members are subscribed by default. None of this requires any theme-side setup — it applies the same way regardless of which Ghost theme is active.

Multiple tiers and newsletter choice

If you run more than one paid Tier, or more than one newsletter, keep in mind that Fold's Paywall text is a single, site-wide message — it doesn't currently vary per tier or per newsletter. If you need tier-specific messaging on individual posts, write it directly into the post body above the Public preview divider instead of relying on the paywall text to carry that nuance.
